How to Choose LED Bulbs

THE NERVE

You must ensure that the nerve is compatible. There are different types of Base: E14 and E27 (the figure corresponds to the diameter of the sleeve in millimeter, or 14 and 27 mm for E27 to E14), B22 (bayonet), GU5.3(which are also called MR16) or GU10, G4, G9 or G24. Here are the main units:

THE EQUIVALENT POWER

When you decide to change a traditional light bulb (incandescent or halogen) by the led (relamping), it is necessary to know the equivalence between these different types of bulbs.
Equivalence between products was made in order to help you make your choice of products:

1, led = 15W halogen 5W = 25W incandescent

5W led = 50W halogen = 65W incandescent

9W led = 65W halogen = 100W incandescent

20W led = 120W halogen incandescent 180W =

Equivalence between (lm) luminous flux and wattage (W)
Watts (W) 25W 506 60W 75W 100W
Lumen (Lm) 220lm-230lm 410lm-430lm 700lm-750lm 920lm-970lm 1300lm 1400lm

For example, for the purchase of a spot LED GU10 2W, this will match 20W halogen spot. To that of a light bulb LED E27 3W, this will correspond to a 25W incandescent light bulb.

CONSUMPTION

When it comes to consumption, it means what is actually consumed by a bulb, and so what you will find on your electricity bill !
Compared to incandescent and halogen, leds have a lower consumption and higher life expectancy.

For example, you had, in your kitchen, 4 spotlights halogen of 50W. You have decided to move on to the leds and change these 4 products by 5W GU10 led spotlights (equivalent 50W halogen).
These 4 spots combined consumption is 20W; This allows a saving of € 25 in one year compared to your previous installation.

COMPATIBLE DRIVE

So-called compatible with dimmer bulbs are also called bulbs ” dimmable “.».
These bulbs have an advantage: they can be used as your old halogen or incandescent and their intensity may vary to the rhythms of your desires!

Indeed, the light intensity can be changed using a dimmer.
If the bulb is not dimmable, the use of a dimmer will not help: the bulb will illuminate and extinguish without variation and won’t blink periods.

Our commercials led or led bulbs are compatible with most drives of intensity (such as for example the eco drive Legrand).

For example, the 10W E27 led bulb (70W incandescent equivalent) is dimmable and spot led GU10 5W (equivalent 50W halogen).

LIGHTING COLOR: SHADES OF WHITE

LED bulbs allow a much better color rendering, and we have the selection of the shade of white for our light sources. Bulbs incandescence and halogen spots were generally sold to warm white color, i.e. White tending towards yellow. The angle of diffusion of these spots was 35 degrees.

Today, thanks to the led products, you usually the choice between (below is a picture showing from top to bottom and from left to right the difference between the colors of light: warm white 2700 ° K, white hot 3000 ° K, neutral white 4000 ° K and cool white 6000 ° K):

  • Warm white: there are two shades: warm white 2700 ° K and the warm white 3000 ° K.
Warm white 2700 ° K is the same color as incandescence or halogen bulbs. This color tends slightly towards yellow, it will be perfect in your living room!
Warm white 3000 ° K is a warm color that gives a slightly more white, ideal light to illuminate a work plan!
  • Neutral white4000 ° K: it’s a light white, very close to the light of day and which will be adequate for your interior.
  • Cold white(temperature higher than 5000 ° K): it is a color which you is advised for your places of passage (stairs and hallways), your basement, garage or for your outdoor lights. It also lets you highlight your tables, your photos and your items.

THE ANGLE OF LIGHT

Diffusion angle is an important factor in the choice of a light bulb or a spot.
With the same value in lumens, the Visual rendering will not be the same depending on the angle of diffusion: a beam with a wide angle will give a softer and warmer than a narrow angle light.

Reduced angle bulbs will highlight objects (jewelry, works of art), they have a very design. Those at wide angles are generally used in salons or rooms for a softer atmosphere.

The maximum angle of diffusion of LED spotlights is 120 ° while that of LED bulbs is 360 °.
These angles are indicated in the data sheet of each product.

For example, the bulb E27 4W (30W incandescent equivalent) has a 360 ° spread angle while the bulb E27 8W(equivalent 43W) has a narrow angle of diffusion.

About the spots, spot led, GU5.3 (28W halogen equivalent) has a wide spread angle: 120 ° while the spot led GU5.3 6, 5W (51W halogen equivalent) has a narrow angle of diffusion: 36 °.

THE FORM

The bulbs and LED spots have a same dimensions and same forms to traditional incandescence or halogen bulbs (really are standard size bulbs and therefore able to replace any existing lighting). We offer you the main existing forms on the market (spot, form round, globe, flame, twisted, candle).

When it comes to consumption, it means what is actually consumed by a bulb, and so what you will find on your electricity bill!

Compared to incandescent and halogen, LEDs have a lower consumption and higher life expectancy.
