Breastmilk is indispensable for the baby in the first months of life, but not always the mother can stay at home to breastfeed the child, therefore, it needs to work, thus, as a unique option to store the breast milk so that the baby can take even when the mother is away.
Keeping breastmilk requires a lot of care so that it does not get spoiled, such care ranges from breast-milk withdrawal to storage in the refrigerator or freezer, which will depend on the amount and when the milk will be consumed.
Breast milk preservation
Experts recommend storing breast milk in a glass or plastic container with a lid, and may even be a bottle, this container needs to be sanitized and sterilized, and when you have the milk should be placed in the refrigerator or freezer.
Breast milk conservation – step by step
1 – After the milk is removed from the breast it should be placed in a container with lid, this container before has to be washed with neutral detergent and sterilized, to do this sterilization simply place the container in a pan with water covering and lead to the fire, let it boil for 10 to 15 minutes and then remove from pan, put upside down and allow to drain water, cool and cover.
2 – In the sterilized container place the milk, cover it well and take it to the refrigerator. If the milk is to be consumed in 24 hours, you can place it in the refrigerator, preferably on the top and bottom shelves, never in the lid, but if you wanted to store to use in up to 15 days you need to put in the freezer that will keep for longer.
Care when collecting milk
Mother’s milk can be collected manually or with the aid of a suction bulb, the mother must avoid wearing watches and bracelets, as well as locking her hair, taking daily baths and collecting in a clean, insects and animals.
When giving the breast milk to the baby, it is first necessary to warm the milk in a cold water bath and to offer the milk in a glass, because it is not recommended to use a bottle at the time of breastfeeding, since the suction in the bottle is different, the baby rejects the breast at the time of the feeding, which is not good because breastfeeding is crucial, because it is a special moment between mother and child and also because the more the baby suck, the better it will be, as it will stimulate milk production and prevent it from failing.
